The answer boils down to budget and space availability. Our most popular backyard basketball court size is a 30×30 half-court floor kit. This provides enough room to play above the 3-point line while not breaking the budget. As for the size of a full backyard basketball court, we would recommend our 46×78 full court basketball floor kit. It is smaller than regulation, but it has the room for small children and adults to play comfortably.

The regulation distance from the ground to the top of the rim is 10 feet for all levels of play. Regulation backboards are 6 feet wide (72 inches) by 42 inches tall. All basketball rims (hoops) are 18 inches in diameter. The inner square on the backboard is 24 inches wide by 18 inches tall.
An NCAA basketball court will be 94 feet in length by 50 wide, with the half court line at 47 feet, directly in the center of the court. The free throw line is 19 feet from the edge of the court and 15 feet from the front of the backboard. The 3 point shooting line is 22.15′ from the center of the hoop.

The other primary difference is high school courts generally do not have a restricted arc under the basket. The three-point line is 19' 9" on both high school and junior high basketball courts.
